We are pleased to be working with this West Yorkshire based FMCG manufacturing business in the recruitment of a strategic Procurement Manager. The business boasts a heritage spanning 250 years and is a leader in the manufacture of own label beverage products for most of the UK’s largest supermarket retailers.
We are seeking a Procurement Manager to focus on the strategic development of supply across packaging (bags and card-based cartons) and all associated consumables. The role will also cover bought in packaged goods via co manufacturing agreements.
This is a role in which you will be looking to develop key, long term supplier relationships to ensure not only cost effective and secure supply but also packaging innovation. You will be working with internal technical teams, retailers and suppliers to secure innovation in materials and packaging solutions. Innovation that will offer sustainability in supply, reduce carbon footprint, reduce the application of single use plastics and reduce cost without compromising on quality and consumer experience.
It is envisaged that that successful applicant will be highly experienced in the procurement of packaging and associated consumables for FMCG applications. This will include working with NPD teams internally and delivering strategic sourcing and supplier engagement processes to deliver the required value and competitive edge.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
To ensure the security of supply of all packaging materials and consumable items to always ensure the smooth running of the factory operation.
To negotiate with the packaging supplier base to drive cost benefits, service improvements and cash flow.
To ensure contingency plans are in place to continue to supply the operations with materials during unforeseen.
Embed a continuous improvement mindset through the function.
Ensure contracts are in place that protect Finlay Beverages that provide continuity of supply and enables mid to long term planning.
Works closely with finance to provide regular forecasts and updates, mitigates risk and provides proactive insights on commodity situations.
Documents, refines and improves Procurement practices, processes, procedures and policies.
Works with bought in good providers and contract manufacturers to ensure continuity of supply that meets service, cost, quality and food safety parameters.
Uses knowledge of the industry to input into NPD and other initiatives that support the business growth aspirations.
Lead regular performance reviews with the supplier base and leaders Supplier Relationship Management (SRM).
When appropriate works with Group Supply Chain to develop practices and drive scale on certain packaging materials.
Drives down packaging material inventory levels in line with business requirements.
Leads all strategic sourcing activities for packaging materials.
Lead, motivate and develop direct reports through the application of core values, performance management and identification of training solutions.
Key competencies to be successful:
An experience packaging procurement professional who has worked within the FMCG industry.
Experience of working with UK retailers and as an own label supplier desirable.
Membership and CIPS accreditation advantageous.
Experience of driving improvements in service, cost and performance across a complex supplier base.
Commercially focused with strong evidence of negotiating skills.
Experience of utilising ERP and MRP systems to drive visibility and improved service.
Desirable experience of working with Microsoft AX.
