Youth Justice Case Manager
Location: Merseyside
Pay rate: £27.35 per hour
Our client has opportunities for a Youth Justice Case Manager. In this role you will form part of the local authority’s Youth Justice Service which works in partnership with other services. You will be committed to working together with partners to help children thrive and to keep them safe. You will support the service to prevent children from entering the criminal justice system, but when they do you will strive to help them learn, make positive changes and build a more promising future. You will ensure children are seen as children above anything else, listen to them and understand their individual needs and provide them with the best opportunity to succeed by drawing upon the full resources of our local partnership. You will be responsible for safeguarding, promoting the welfare of child and young person, managing risk and vulnerability whilst ensuring that the public are protected and the sentence is served, ensuring the reputation of the Department and Council is preserved.
You will focus on performance, policies and procedures, will work closely with the Service Improvement Leads and you will respond to key focus areas of practice;
- Collaborating with the workforce to help influence a shift in culture and practice. Utilising both quantitative and qualitative performance data to improve and drive good practice forward in the service.
- Working with partner agencies to create a culture where everyone is ambitious to improve the service provided to children and young people.
- Using the voice of those with lived experience to support the development of our work within the Youth Justice Service.
- Provide support to colleagues and teams, driving forward best practice.
- Adapt to new areas of practice and continuously develop your knowledge to drive change within the service.
- you are passionate about helping young people, acting both as a mentor and a figure of authority
- you can understand and connect with children and young people from all backgrounds and situations, including those who have committed serious crimes, grown up in difficult settings or have mental health concerns
Working with children and young people in custody can be tough. They can be impulsive, in your face and test boundaries at every level. You’ll need to make quick but effective decisions. You’ll also need patience and resilience. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the security and safety of children and young people, and supporting them day-to-day in a custodial environment. Each shift you’ll work with children and young people supporting them to manage their behaviour and attend education, training and activities. You’ll get the training and development you need to understand the individual circumstances for children and young people in custody, and how to react in complex or dynamic situations.
Perfect candidate will be:
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England .
- SW, CSS, DipSW or Social Work Degree Creative, flexible, and forward thinking in approach.
- Work in a Social Services Directorate or other Statutory or Voluntary Agency.
- Constantly striving for continuous improvement to provide the best outcomes for individuals and their families
- Able to use excellent mediation and negotiation skills on behalf of service users.
- Work with a range of client groups within an Agency
- Highly skilled at building meaningful relationships with children and families to engage them in assessments and plans
- Committed to providing our service users with a high-quality service
- Experienced in working in a multi-disciplinary, interagency basis
- Knowledge of legislation relating to general social work practice
- 4 Years plus Qualified
- Use skills, knowledge, and experience to make full assessment of risks protection and social care needs.
- Manage an agreed case load.
- Use specialist communication skills to achieve optimum outcomes for service users.
- Devise individual care plans, taking account of diversity and promoting dignity and empowerment.
- Offer advice and support to unqualified staff and students to assist development.
