Job Description

Specialist Housing Occupational Therapist
Location: Merseyside
Pay rate:  £39 per hour

We are looking for experienced and passionate Occupational Therapist for Specialist Housing. The service is extremely busy and deals with the assessment of applicants for complex equipment and major adaptations, Moving and Handling risk assessments and the assessment.

The ideal candidate will have:  
  • A Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy two years post-registration experience and current registration.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise written reports;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong team working skills including working in a multi-disciplinary team and liaison with relevant bodies;
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to disability;
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas - provision of major adaptations or moving and handling or paediatric equipment/children with complex needs;
  • Extensive experience of visiting disabled and/or older people in their home;
  • A good understanding of the aims of the service in relation to meeting the needs of older and disabled people living in Manchester;
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals ;
  • A full driving licence and access to a car (for which essential car user is payable).
In this role you will
  • Complete strength based assessments for people with disabilities within the City Council’s eligibility criteria, applying the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.
  • Establish partnerships with people with disabilities and carers (including young carers), actively using consultation and participation.
  • Recommend, demonstrate and organise the supply of equipment and structural adaptations to meet the assessed need.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, statutory, voluntary, community resources and other stakeholders to ensure the best possible services are provided for people and their carers within available resources.
  • Manage a diverse workload within Adult Social Care priorities and City Council policies.
  • Utilise appropriate training and development opportunities, participating in your own professional development in line with criteria set out by the Allied Health Professionals Council.
