Job Description
Ready to build practical SEN skills in a primary setting?
Support one pupil with Autism and ADHD so school feels calm and predictable.
*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £94 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 SEN support for a pupil with Autism and ADHD
The Role:
You will act as a steady adult for one pupil throughout the day. You will set up simple visuals, break work into clear steps and agree short goals the pupil can meet. In lessons you will model how to begin a task, prompt with now and next cards and use quiet cues to keep attention on track. You will plan brief regulation breaks and a clean re-entry so learning restarts quickly. You will pre-teach key words before new topics, run short practice for reading and number facts, then help the pupil apply gains in class. You will record quick outcomes, update an intervention log and confirm next actions with the class teacher and SENCO. You will follow behaviour and safeguarding procedures and support calm arrivals, tidy transitions and end-of-day routines.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You are patient, observant and clear in your language. You hold boundaries that are warm and consistent and help pupils move towards independence.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication, strong written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, already held or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education or with children, strong interest in SEN and wellbeing.
- Experience supporting children or young people is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary runs predictable routines from arrival to home time. Staff use shared behaviour language, visual timetables and plan–do–review cycles so support is joined up. Reading is protected daily with phonics and guided practice. Maths is taught in small, connected steps with regular low-stakes checks so methods are consistent between classes. Teams co-plan and share model texts, worked examples and ready-to-use intervention packs, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your work aligns with the curriculum. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite-size CPD and focused coaching with practical next moves.
How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
