Job Description

"Success isn't about the money you make; it is about the difference you make in people's lives."  Michelle Obama.

Sheridan Maine is delighted to be working with a leading accountancy practice to recruit an Accounts & Tax Senior for its South Somerset office. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced rural accountant with strong tax knowledge, who is keen to build on their expertise and play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of rural businesses.

As part of the Rural Team, you’ll support Senior Rural Advisers with accounts and tax work, while also contributing to the delivery of a seamless and outstanding client experience. This is a fantastic chance to deepen your involvement in the rural sector, working closely with specialists across the firm and building long-term, trusted relationships with clients.

Key responsibilities of the Accounts & Tax Senior include:

  • Work closely with Senior Rural Advisers and the Rural Team to address the unique tax needs of rural businesses, ensuring compliance deadlines are met.
  • Review and oversee the preparation of tax returns and accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Support advisers by preparing tax-related reports, accounts, and non-compliance work to enhance client service.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to add value to rural clients, offering practical tax and accountancy solutions.
  • Collaborate with the dedicated Tax Team and other specialists across the business to deliver a seamless client experience.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with clients, providing trusted guidance across tax and broader accountancy matters.

The successful Accounts & Tax Senior will have:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a UK accountancy practice.
  • Proven expertise in preparing and reviewing accounts and tax returns for rural businesses (e.g. farms, estates, agricultural enterprises).
  • Strong technical grounding in both accounts and tax compliance, with the ability to provide tailored advice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build trusted client relationships.

What’s on Offer:
  • Supportive firm that actively encourages career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid working model (3 days office-based).
  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Opportunity to specialise further in the rural sector while taking on a key client-facing role.

If you are an experienced rural accountant looking for the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you. Please click “apply” and one of our Sheridan Maine consultants will be in touch.

You are required to be eligible to work in the UK full time without restriction.

Due to the high volume of applications, it is not always possible to respond to unsuccessful applicants. Therefore, if we have not responded to your application within five days, please assume that on this occasion your application has not been successful.
