Class 3 Registered Building Inspector (inside IR35)
Planning & Conservation – Building Control
Location: London
Contract Type: Temporary
Competitive: Day rate (Umbrella)
Duration: 3 months (rolling)
Responsible to: Head of Building Control
Responsible for: Senior and Building Control Surveyors
Interviews to take place ASAP with a view to a start soon thereafter

Overview
  • To lead the delivery of technical services across Building Control, ensuring all work complies with legislation and regulations.
  • To support the Building Safety Regulator in regulating and enforcing standards for higher-risk buildings.
  • To manage the response to dangerous structures and liaise with emergency services to ensure public safety.
  • To contribute to the management of the Building Control service and deputise for senior managers where required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical advice and prepare reports on building regulations, building safety, dangerous structures and land charges.
  • Contribute to government consultations and technical reviews.
  • Enforce the Building Act 1984 and Building Safety Act 2022, including investigations, serving notices and prosecutions.
  • Inspect demolitions and temporary structures, issuing licences and notices.
  • Review fire safety information submitted with planning applications.
  • Ensure surveyors meet competency requirements set by the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Contribute to emergency planning for dangerous structures.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, GDPR, Freedom of Information and equal opportunities policies.

Person Specification
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
  • Professional membership of MRICS, CABE or equivalent.
  • Class 3 Registered Building Inspector.

Experience
  • At least five years’ post-qualification experience, preferably in Building Control.
  • Experience in enforcement, investigations and prosecutions.
  • Experience managing complex casework, including higher-risk buildings and dangerous structures.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act 1984 and Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Able to apply legislation while ensuring compliance and safety.
  • Good IT skills – able to prepare reports, correspondence and manage records.
  • Awareness of the commercial environment for Building Control.
  • Strong report writing and briefing skills.
Communication Skills
  • Able to explain technical information clearly.
  • Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to advise and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
