About the Role
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a dynamic building services consultancy in Bristol, renowned for delivering low-energy, sustainable designs. This role offers the opportunity to work on award-winning projects across education, arts, leisure, commercial, and residential sectors, with a particular emphasis on the conservation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will take a lead role in designing and specifying electrical systems, ensuring high standards of performance, efficiency, and sustainability. You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver fully integrated, environmentally responsible building services solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Specification: Develop detailed electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, security systems, and lightning protection
• Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical engineers and other disciplines to deliver coordinated MEP solutions
• Sustainability Focus: Contribute to low-energy building designs, including Passivhaus and BREEAM-certified projects
• Technical Analysis: Use tools for lighting 3D modelling, thermal, energy, ventilation, and daylight simulations to inform design decisions
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet UK building regulations and industry standards
• Client Engagement: Participate in client meetings, providing expert advice and ensuring requirements are met
• Mentorship: Support and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment

Skills & Experience

• Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
• 2–5 years’ experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
• Strong understanding of UK regulations and standards (BS 7671, CIBSE)
• Experience with energy performance calculations and sustainability assessments
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Full UK driving licence preferred
