About the Role

An established and growing MEP consultancy on the South Coast is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly, technically focused team in Southampton.
Working on a broad range of building services projects across the healthcare, education, commercial, and research sectors, you’ll be part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment delivering technically sound, sustainable engineering solutions.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a few years of consultancy experience to step into more project ownership, supported by senior mentors and clear career progression.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver mechanical building services designs including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic water systems
  • Produce calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings using design tools and software
  • Coordinate designs with internal electrical, sustainability, and BIM teams
  • Contribute to sustainable and low-carbon strategies across mechanical systems
  • Attend client and design team meetings and contribute to technical discussions
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to gather technical data
  • Ensure designs meet current UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and client requirements
  • Support more junior staff and work closely with senior engineers for project delivery

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree or HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
  • 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical design within a building services consultancy
  • Proficient with mechanical design software (Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, plantroom layouts, pipework, ductwork, and energy efficiency principles
  • Strong awareness of current UK regulations and CIBSE best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, organised, and detail-focused approach to your work
  • Ambition to develop professionally – working towards chartership is encouraged and supported
