Electrical Design Engineer (Senior to Associate) – Building Services ConsultancyLocation: Plymouth (Hybrid Working)Employment Type: Full-TimeSalary: Competitive + Benefits + BonusOverviewWe are seeking Electrical Design Engineers to join a respected building services consultancy in Plymouth. This is an exciting opportunity to work on technically challenging projects across healthcare, education, commercial, and residential sectors, delivering innovative and sustainable MEP solutions.
The Electrical Design Engineer will lead detailed electrical designs, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and ensure high-quality, compliant, and sustainable project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead detailed electrical design for building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire & life safety, and BMS systems
  • Produce, review, and approve calculations, specifications, single-line diagrams, and CAD/Revit drawings
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure integrated project delivery
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders at all project stages
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and support to junior engineers
  • Ensure compliance with UK standards and regulations (BS 7671, CIBSE)
  • Incorporate sustainable design practices and low-carbon technologies
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and quality assurance processes
Candidate Profile
  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline
  • Typically 5+ years’ experience in building services electrical design (consultancy or similar)
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM)
  • Proven expertise in electrical system design and knowledge of UK standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Passion for sustainable engineering and innovative design solutions
  • Chartered status (CEng, IEng) or working toward chartership is preferred
  • Full UK right to work; sponsorship not available
