Procurement People are pleased to announce the charity that we will be supporting and raising funds for in 2017 will be Rethink Mental Illness. In partnership with our sister businesses in Executive Network Group; The HSE Network and Network HR Recruitment, we will be holding various event fundraisers to support this very important cause.
Mental Illness treatment in the UK is a burning topic at present. Which underlines that the NHS is under immense pressure with how they support patients questioning whether they are prepared for the increase in the need for these services. “Out of 39 mental health trusts that provided figures for their crisis teams, 27 had seen their workload increase - 70% and some had seen referrals rise by as much as 60% - but without a comparable rise in funding. NHS England said an extra £400m would be spent on crisis resolution teams. BBC Radio 5 live contacted all 54 mental health trusts who run crisis teams in England. One of them, East London NHS Foundation Trust, revealed its crisis team had seen referrals increase from 7,057 to 11,368 last year, a 60% rise in demand.” Rowan Bridge, BBC News - 27th July 2017. This is also highlighting the stigma of mental health in the wider community and there is now a focus in changing attitudes and approaches to people with such conditions and that mental health issues should be treated equally as important as physical health and provide support networks where possible.
“Rethink Mental Illness is a charity that believes a better life is possible for the millions of people affected by mental Illness. For 40 years we have brought people together to support each other through our services, groups and campaign.” Rethink Mental Illness, UK Website 2017. Rethink do invaluable work to improve the lives of people who are affected by mental illness.
So far in June and July ENG have started our fundraising efforts in house. The first event was a bake sale where our recruiters rolled up their sleeves and donned an apron to show us their culinary skills baking a range of delicious treats that would give Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry a run for their money including cheesecakes, sponges, lemon drizzles, red velvet cake, brownies, flapjacks, rocky road, doughnuts and Daisy’s legendary sausage rolls . I think we all had a bit more than we should have that day in terms of treats, I know I certainly did but it was in support of an important cause with this event we raised a brilliant £164.64.
The second very funny and successful event we held was a Spot the Baby competition featuring 27 of our very own ENG babies and toddlers we even managed to get Senior Managers and Directors to submit their pictures. Most of the photos were successful in throwing people off and being wrongly guessed as many do not look like our team today but a couple still had the same cherub faces. For this event players were charged at £1 a go and we managed to raise a superb £50.
Thoughts turn our next event we are set to embark on our biggest challenge yet, on September 9 th and 10 th 15 of our recruiters will be taking part in a Bear Grylls inspired survivalist trek across the Yorkshire Moors. Those involved will be walking and climbing steep terrain for 30 miles in the unpredictable British September weather. With only the essentials to keep us going including items such as water, a flint, rations, waterproofs and sheer determination. This event is stretched across two days with an overnight wild camp in the middle. This will be a gruelling challenge which will test the stamina of our team who I know will be suffering without their creature comforts.
Stayed tuned for a follow up blog to see how we survived!
